Call on Duffy to support climate change study

Letters to the editor

EDITOR: Join me in thanking 11 courageous House Republicans!

Congressmen Sean Duffy, right, and Paul Ryan, mingle during a fund raiser for Sean Duffy Tuesday afternoon at Yawkey House Museum in Wausau.

Last month, they introduced House Resolution 424, the Gibson Resolution named for Rep. Chris Gibson of New York who introduced it. It calls for the House of Representatives to work to create and support solutions to climate changes.

That took guts! But it's also an indication of the change beginning to occur in the halls of Congress.

In June, I was among 800 volunteers who went to Capitol Hill and met with more than 500 congressional offices about climate change. Most of the Republicans we met with did not disagree with us about the climate crisis.

In years past, many in Congress had refused to accept the fact that 97 percent of climate scientists are convinced, based upon the evidence, that human-caused global warming is happening.

Now, they don't, and that's good news for all Americans, Republicans and Democrats, progressives and conservatives alike.

Let Rep. Sean Duffy know that you'd like him to join the eleven other House Republicans sponsoring HR 424.

In the words of the Gibson resolution, "prudent, fact-based stewardship of our economy and our environment is a critical responsibility for all Americans in order to ensure that we preserve our great Nation for future generations."
