Aubrey Drohner tops all-WVC softball team
WAUSAU - Stevens Point Area Senior High junior Aubrey Drohner heads the field for the all-Wisconsin Valley Conference softball team, which was released Wednesday.
Drohner was selected the conference player of the year a season after she shared the honor with former D.C. Everest standout Makayla Pagel.
The Panthers starting pitcher posted a 12-0 record in the conference this spring with a 1.53 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 64 innings for the conference champions. She also had a .487 batting average in the WVC with 11 extra-base hits and 23 RBI.
Drohner was one of five players who were unanimous selections to the all-conference team. SPASH teammates Payton Gaber and Ally Miklesh were unanimous selections as an infielder and outfielder, respectively as was D.C. Everest pitcher Miranda Gajewski and Merrill utility player Emily Travis.
Gaber ranked second in the conference with a .585 batting aveage and Miklesh was 11th with a 477 mark.
Gajewski topped the conference in both ERA (1.49) and strikeouts (104 in 75 innings). Travis had a .400 batting average in conference play for the Bluejays.
The first team also includes SPASH catcher Jordan Kawlewski, who led the WVC with a .645 batting average and a .641 on-base percentage, as well as D.C. Everest's Maggie Plaza, Merrill's Chelsey LaMonica, Wisconsin Rapids' Madison Bogie and Marshfield's Jenna Jakobi.
The second team is highlighted by Marshfield's Megan Donahue, who hit a conference-high seven home runs and drove in 24 runs. Dohanue also was third in the conference with a 4.45 ERA for the Tigers with 100 strikeouts in 66 innings.
D.C. Everest's Mike Mathies and SPASH's Tom Drohner were selected as the co-coaches of the year.
