DCE begins title defense as No. 2 seed
WAUSAU - D.C. Everest begins its defense of the Division 1 state championship as a No. 2 seed in the WIAA girls soccer playoff brackets released Friday.
The Evergreens, who wrapped up their fourth straight Wisconsin Valley Conference championship Thursday, open the postseason against seventh-seed Wausau West in a regional semifinal game June 2.
The state tournament is June 16-18 at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee.
Everest, which is vying for a third-straight state tournament appearance, is one of four local programs that will host an opening-round playoff game.
Stevens Point Area Senior High, which finished third in the WVC, earned a No. 3 seed in Division 1 and hosts No. 6 Eau Claire North in a regional semifinal. The winner will face either West or Everest in a regional championship game.
Eau Claire Memorial, which entered the week ranked No. 1 in the state poll, earned a No. 1 seed and could potentially be a sectional semifinal opponent for Everest, SPASH or West.
The sectional round will begin June 9.
Wausau East, which finished fourth in the WVC, is seeded fourth in Division 2 and hosts Hortonville in a playoff opener.
Mosinee, which finished second in the Great Northern Conference, earned a No. 2 seed in Division 3. Mosinee opens the playoffs at home against Waupaca.
