WAUSAU – A second child has died as the result of injuries sustained in Friday's rollover crash in the town of Easton.

The Marathon County Sheriff's Department announced the second fatality shortly after 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The child died at Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, where the victim had been in critical condition since the crash. Another child was pronounced dead at the scene of the single-vehicle wreck.

The SUV, which was carrying 10 young people, rolled over shortly before 10 a.m. on Highway 52 near Mill Road, about 12 miles northeast of Wausau.

The Sheriff's Department has not released the names of either child who died or other details from the wreck. More information will be available Monday, when a press release on the incident will be made available, according to a department Facebook post.

Three victims from the crash remained hospitalized Saturday: Two were at Saint Joseph's Hospital, one in critical condition and one in good condition; and one was at Aspirus Wausau Hospital in fair condition.

Meanwhile, the mother of one of the youths who survived the crash with minor injuries told Daily Herald Media on Saturday that her son was "traumatized" and will need help to deal with the experience.

Sarah Martinez-Ramirez, 39, of Wausau confirmed that her son, Shaquille Holzem, 17, was injured in the crash. The group, all friends, some of them siblings, were driving in one SUV to the Eau Claire Dells County Park for a day of picnicking and swimming.

Martinez-Ramirez said her son told her he was wearing a seatbelt and had to climb over the others to get out of the vehicle.

"It's a nightmare," Martinez-Ramirez said. "I'm just at a loss for words."

Jim Rosenberg, a Marathon County Board member and former Wausau City Council member, also confirmed that two of the victims are his grandchildren.

"Our grandchildren, Austin Rosenberg and Caitlinn Rosenberg are going to be alright, but today's accident on Highway 52 was one of great and lasting consequences," Jim Rosenberg posted on his Facebook account late Friday night. "Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the families involved."

Rosenberg said the handling of the crash and care his grandchildren and other victims received was "totally impressive and obviously well-practiced. These people knew exactly what they were doing and we have a lot to be grateful for her."

Rosenberg declined to comment further on the crash.
