All-Great Northern Conference teams named

Mosinee's Bailey Schultz led the Great Northern Conference in both hits and batting average this spring and was named the conference's softball player of the year.

MOSINEE - Bailey Schultz was named the softball player of the year in the Great Northern Conference, making the fourth straight year that a Mosinee athlete has received the conference honor.

Schultz led the conference in hits (27) and batting average (.643) for the GNC champions. The senior was named player of the year after former Mosinee athlete Rochelle Koshalek earned the honor the previous three seasons.

Schultz was not the only GNC athlete honored.

Mosinee keeper Claire Nievinski was selected as the GNC's girls soccer defensive player of the year, while Northland Pines' Lexi Smith earned the top offensive player honors.

Antigo's Hunter Kirsch was named the GNC's top baseball player

Schultz was one of five unanimous choices for the all-GNC softball team. Antigo's Allison Kondzel and Laurissa Belott earned the honor as did Rhinelander's Katie Detert and Ali Schickert

Schultz was one of four Mosinee players to be named to the first team as she was joined by teammates Maloree Beste, Mckayla Garski and Brooke Wierzbanowski.

Medford's Tori Lammar, Kaitlin Walsh and Jenice Clausnitzer were first team selections as well.

Mosinee's Todd Felch was selected as the coach of the year.

Kirsch had a GNC-best .516 batting average for the Antigo baseball team that captured the GNC title and also was tied for second with 16 hits in conference play.

Mosinee's Bryce Graveen and Antigo's Nick Greening were also unanimous selections. Mosinee's Zach Bednar and Antigo's Max Nowinsky and Collin Meinert were first team selections as well.

Nievinski led the GNC with a .949 save percent and was second with a 0.76 goals against average for the Mosinee girls soccer team, which finished second in the conference.

Nievinski's teammate Kate Gulan was one of five unanimous selections to the all-conference squad. Ashland's Harley Kinney and Molly Kovala were both unanimous selections along with Northland Pines' Lexi Smith and Rhinelander's Alayna Franson.

In addition, Medford's Jared Rudolph and Rhinelander's Alayna Franson were named the boys and girls runners of the year for the all-GNC track team. Lakleand's Logan Allen was the boys field event athlete of the year, and Lakeland's Emily Scott received the girls honor.

Lakeland's Kevin Fitzpatrick was named the boys and girls track coach of the year.

Rhinelander's Logan Wild was named the singles player of the year for the all-GNC boys tennis team. Antigo's Drew Schwarz and Ben Bartletti were the doubles team of the year, and Antigo's Dave Zalewski was the top coach.

Medford's Spenser Scholl was the GNC boys golfer of the year. Medford's Dave Vaara was selected as the top coach.
