SPASH's Drohner receives state honor

STEVENS POINT - Aubrey Drohner was a force for the Panthers as a hitter and pitcher this season as the Stevens Point Area Senior High softball team captured a state championship last weekend in Madison.

The Wisconsin Valley Conference player of the year added another postseason honor this week as the junior was named the Division 1 co-player of the year by the Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association. Drohner shares the honor with Watertown's Elle Jensen.

Drohner had a .485 batting avearage this spring and set a program single-season record with 49 RBI. She also had 15 doubles this season and has 49 for her career, which also set a program mark. Drohner had a .869 slugging percentage overall as part of a potent Panthers offense.

The Panthers No. 1 starter also posted a 25-2 mark with a 1.65 ERA as a pitcher. She totaled with 139 strikeouts.

Delavan-Darien's Jennah Speth (Division 2), Laconia's Kayla Schwebke (Division 3) and Thorp's Lizzy Schimke (Division 4) also were named players of the year

Thorp's Brad Ceranski was selected as the coach of the year.

Drohner was named to the WFSCA first team along with SPASH teammate Ally Miklesh and Mosinee's Bailey Schultz.

Miklesh had a .448 batting average with 45 runs scored and 18 stolen bases. Schultz was the Great Northern Conference player of the year and led the conference with a .643 batting average.

SPASH's Jordy Kawlewski and Shaylee Kluck were both second team selections along with D.C. Everest's Miranda Gajewski.

D.C. Everest's Miranda Gajewski was named second team all-state by the Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association this week.

Kawlewski and Kluck had a .432 and .422 batting average, respectively, and combined for 66 RBI. Gajewski, the Evergreens No. 1 starting pitcher, led the WVC with a 1.49 ERA this spring.

Everest teammates Lauren Brinkman and Maggie Plaza were both third team all-state selections, along with Wisconsin Rapids' Madison Bogie, Pacelli's Brook Nagorski and SPASH's Payton Gaber.

Brinkman led Everest with a .488 batting average in the WVC, while Plaza had a .410 batting average in conference games.

Bogie, a first team all-WVC selection, led Rapids with a. 514 batting average in conference play.

Wisconsin Rapids' Madison Bogie was a third team all-state selection by the Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association.

Gaber had a .404 batting avearge with six home runs and 35 RBI..

Nagorski, the Cardinals starting pitcher, was the Central Wisconsin Conference-8 player of the year.

Athens' Brianna Lavicka and Mosinee's Brooke Wierzbanowski were both honorable mention selections.

Lavicka was a unanimous selection for the all-Marawood Conference North Division team. Wierzbanowski  was a first team all-Great Northern Conference selection and had a .463 batting average in conference play.
