All-Marawood baseball, softball teams named
WAUSAU - Marathon's Ryan Gassner was selected the baseball player of the year in the Marawood Conference South Division for the second time in his prep career.
Gassner, who also received the honor two years ago as a sophomore, led the Marawood South in both ERA (0.54) and strikeouts (65) for the conference champions. He is one of four unanimous selections to the all-conference team, joined by the Raiders' Noah Dirks, Landen Williamson and Karter Underwood.
Nine of the 10 players were unanimous selections for the all-South Division squads as the Marawood Conference baseball and softball teams were released Tuesday: Assumption's Brady Baltus, Auburndale's Logan Willfahrt, Pittsville's Paul Downs and Stratford's Cole Hoffman and Dylan Peterson.
Pittsville's Aaron Masanz was also named to the first team.
Chequamegon's Caleb Armstrong was the Marawood North player of the year and one of 10 unanimous selections to the first team. Abbotsford's Treven Gorst and Cooper Henricksen, Athens Marshall Westfall and Edgar's Maverick Mueller were among the unanimous selections.
Marathon's Steve Warren and Rib Lake's Dick Iverson were the Marawood South and North coaches of the year, respectively.
Marathon's Julia Anderson was named the Marawood South softball player of the year and one of three Raiders players named to the first team.
Anderson ranked in top five in the conference in doubles, home runs, runs scored and runs scored.
Marathon's Allison Stieber and Amanda Kind were also first team selections and Kind was a unanimous pick.
Four players were unanimous selections overall including Assumption's Ellie Schill and Stratford's Brittney Bredemann.
Assumption's Taylor Nelson and Erin Sullivan were also named to the first team along with Newman Catholic's Lauren Fech and Stratford's Lorrie Luepke and Kaylee Geiger.
Phillips' Morgan Edwards was the Marawood North player of the year and one of nine unanimous selections to the first team
Athens' Briana Lavicka, Paige Denzine and Berenice Lira were unanimous selections along with Edgar's Lindsey Schneeberger.
Marathon's Chad Thurs and Auburndale's Anne Teska were the Marawood South co-coaches of the year, whlle Athens' Craig Diedrich took the Marawood North honor.
