All-WVC baseball, girls soccer teams named

WAUSAU - The Stevens Point Area Senior High baseball team posted a perfect record in the Wisconsin Valley Conference this spring, and Matt McHugh and Gus Turner-Zick were two reasons for the Panthers' success.
The two were the co-players of the year as the all-WVC baseball team was recently released along with the all-conference girls soccer squad.
Dorene Sanchez, a junior defender for D.C. Everest, was named the WVC's girls soccer player of the year.
McHugh finished second in the WVC with a .512 batting average and also led the Panthers with 22 hits in conference play. Turner-Zick finished third in the WVC with a .488 batting average and nine of his 21 hits in conference play went for extra bases, including six doubles.

SPASH's Joe Strigel and Nick Schroeder were also first team all-WVC picks, and both were unanimous selections.
Merril infielder Trevor Asmundsen was the only other unanimous selection.
Wausau West had three first team selections: Zach Pearson, Payton Nelson and Paul Weise.
Marshfield's Trevor Schwecke and Paul Maguire were also first team picks along with D.C. Everest's Logan Langbehn.
Sanchez highlights the all-WVC girls soccer team. She was part of an Evergreens defense that held opponents to 30 shots on goal during conference play.
Everest went undefeated in the WVC and Sanchez was one of three members of the Evergreens named to the first team. Midfielders McKenna Gilmore and Bri Widmer were also first-team Jo selections and Gilmore was an unanimous pick.

Wausau East midfielder Allyson Dehnel and SPASH forward Justice Menge were also unanimous selections.
Wisconsin Rapids led the conference with four first team picks: goalkeeper Chani Pulchinski, midfielder Katie Kiiskila and defenders Libby Schuerman and Aubrey Iwinski.
SPASH midfielder Anna Zajakowski and Wausau West midfielder Natalie Lucht were also first team selections as well.
The all-WVC boys tennis was recently named as well.
SPASH's Jon Peck, Wausau East's Sawyer Schlindwein, Wausau West's Luke Bailey and Wisconsin Rapids' Dane Steidl were all unanimous selections for the all-conference squad. The four singles players were joined by unanimous double team selections: Evan Fait/Derek Reckner of Marshfield, Keach Chang/Isaac Stine of Wausau East and Wausau West's Ben Reich and Ben Nichols.
