WAUSAU - Police determined there was no threat after investigating a box found on a planter in the 400 Block Wednesday.

Police who were already responding to one dangerous situation on Wausau's northeast side were called to the 400 Block park downtown, where they shut down part of a busy street.

Third Street was closed between Scott and Jefferson streets about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday as the Marathon County bomb squad investigated a report of a suspicious package. Around 2:15 p.m., they determined the area was safe.

Wausau police Capt. Ben Graham confirmed to USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin that the box was not a threat. Camera footage helped determine that it had been set on the planter after blowing around the area, he said.
