Chucks set record in win over Bombers

WAUSAU - The Woodchucks set a franchise record for runs in a 22-7 win over Battle Creek Sunday at Athletic Park.

Jared Oliva drove in four runs and Connor Heady and George Janca both drove in three runs. The offensive output surpassed the previous mark of 20 runs set in July 2015.

The Chucks improved to 30-35 overall and 17-13 in the second half of the Northwoods League season. Wisconsin is a half-game out of the final wild card playoff spot with six games left in the regular season. Green Bay, Lakeshore and Kalamazoo are in a three-way tie for fourth place.

The Chucks head to Wisconsin Rapids Monday for a matchup with the Rafters, who lead the South Division with a 19-9 second-half record.

The Chucks scored 11 runs in the second inning and 10 in the fifth against Battle Creek.

Every Chucks starter had at least one hit, scored one run and drove in a run by the end of the fifth inning.

Heady, Chad Fleischman and Stevie Mangrun all scored three runs in the win.

WAUSAU - Connor Heady hit his seventh home run of the season and also had an RBI double as the Chucks lost the opener of the two-game Northwoods League series at Athletic Park.

Chad Fleischman doubled twice in the loss, and Steele Walker extended his on-base streak to 38 games.
