Spencer/Columbus Catholic moves up in AP poll

Hunter Luepke has helped the Spencer/Columbus Catholic football team get off to a strong start this fall.

WAUSAU - Spencer/Columbus Catholic moved up a spot in the Medium Division of The Associated Press state prep football poll this week.

The Rockets (2-0) jumped up a spot to No. 5 in the Medium Division of the poll and host state-ranked Stanley-Boyd in a Cloverbelt Conference showdown Friday.

Stanley-Boyd (1-1), which was edged by Regis last week, is ranked No. 10 in the Small Division.

Spencer/Columbus Catholic is one of three local programs to be ranked in the second week of the prep polls.

Edgar (2-0) remains No. 3 in the Small Division for a second straight week.

Amherst (1-1) fell four spots to No. 7 in the Medium Division after a loss to Saint Mary's Springs in a nonconference game this past Friday.

Springs (2-0) was a unanimous selection as the top Small Division team. Kimberly (2-0) was also a unanimous pick in the Large Division.

Stevens Point Area Senior High (2-0) received votes in the Large Division for the second straight week. The Panthers hosts Fond du Lac in a Valley Football Association showdown Friday. Fond du Lac was a honorable mention pick in the Large Division as well.

Loyal, Owen-Withee, Almond-Bancroft, Abbotsford and Stratford all received votes in the Small Division.
