Stevens Point, Amherst move up in AP poll

Edgar dropped to No. 8 in the Small Division for the Associated Press state football poll after Friday's loss to Stratford.

WAUSAU - Both Stevens Point Area Senior High and Amherst moved up a spot in the Associated Press state football poll this week.

The Panthers (4-0) are No. 8 among large schools after a 22-7 win over Oshkosh North in a Valley Football Association-South Division game last Friday.

Amherst (3-1) jumped up to No. 5 in the Medium Division on the strength of a 48-0 win over Weyauwega-Fremont in a Central Wisconsin Conference-8 game.

The state poll was released Monday afternoon.

Edgar (3-1) fell five spots to No. 8 in the Small Division after a 7-6 loss to Stratford in a Marawood Conference battle.

Stratford (3-1) received votes in the Small Division once again, falling just outside of the Top 10 despite the win over the Wildcats.

Abbotsford and Iola-Scandinavia also received votes in the Small Division as did Spencer/Columbus Catholic in the Medium Division.

Kimberly and Fond du Lac Springs were both unanimous selections for the top spot in the Large and Small Divisions, respectively.

Green Bay Notre Dame received 12 of 15 first-place votes for the top spot in the Medium Division. Waukesha Catholic Memorial received the other three first-place votes and was second in the poll.
