Three ranked in final AP state poll of year

WAUSAU - Three local prep football teams finished ranked in the final Associated Press state poll of the regular season.

Amherst remained No. 5 in the Medium Division, while Stratford and Abbotsford remained No. 8 and No. 10, respectively, in the Small Division.

Abbotsford, which completed a second straight undefeated regular season, broke into the state poll last week.

The WIAA football postseason starts with Level 1 games this weekend.

Stevens Point Area Senior High just missed the top 10 in the Large Division. The Panthers, who wrapped up the Valley Football Association-South Division title last week, received 14 points in the poll Brookfield Central, which dropped from fourth to 10th in the poll after its first loss of the year, finished with 21 points.

Adams-Friendship, which completed an undefeated regular season, received votes in the Medium Division as did Marathon and Edgar in the Small Division.

The top of the three divisions remained the same this week. Kimberly (Large Division), Waukesha Catholic Memorial (Medium Division) and Fond du Lac Springs (Small Division) were unanimous No. 1 teams with all 10 first-place votes.
