NORRIE - A cattle truck overturned Sunday night near Hatley, resulting in a traffic crash and the death of several cows.

Deputies were sent to the town of Norrie at 11:15 p.m. Sunday after a cattle truck rolled over on State 29.  The truck was carrying 32 Black Angus cattle;  16 of them were immediately removed from the vehicle and sent to a local farm.   But eight other cows escaped and they have not been found by deputies as of Monday afternoon.

One of the loose cows caused another crash on State 29 and the driver received minor injuries, police said.

Several cattle were seriously injured from the crash, and they were euthanized at the scene. Other cattle wandering near other roads were also killed in order to avert another crash, police said. The truck came from the Minneapolis area and the driver was heading to a slaughterhouse in Green Bay, police said.

Officials closed State 29 for several hours on Monday morning to search for the cows. Deputies ask drivers to be careful when driving around the Hatley area. Anyone who sees Black Angus cattle around the area is asked to call 715-261-7791. A local farmer has offered to help corral the cows.
