Amherst, Edgar both ranked No. 2 in AP state prep football poll

Amherst clinched a share of the Central Wisconsin Conference-Large Division title with a win over Iola-Scandinavia last Friday. The Falcons are ranked No. 2 in the Medium Division of the latest Associated Press state prep football poll.

AMHERST - The Falcons made a jump in the Associated Press state football poll for the second straight week. 

Amherst (7-1) moved up two spots in the Medium Division to No. 2  after a win over Iola-Scandinavia last Friday. The Falcons, who clinched a share of the Central Wisconsin Conference-Large Division with the win, are one of two local ranked teams in the state poll, released Tuesday afternoon. 

Edgar remained No. 2 in the Small Division behind Saint Mary's Springs, which was a unanimous No. 1 again. The Wildcats (8-0) host Stratford in a showdown for the Marawood Conference championship Friday. Stratford (7-1) received votes in the Small Division as did Abbotsford. 

The Falcons (7-1) travel to Loyal on Friday in a battle of teams without a loss in CloverWood Conference play. 

Spencer/Columbus Catholic (7-1) received votes in the Medium Division for the second straight week. 

Kimberly and Lodi remained the top-ranked teams in the Large and Medium divisions, respectively. 

Newman Catholic remained No. 3 in the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association state poll. The Cardinals (8-0) close out the regular season against Menominee Indian.
