ABBOTSFORD – Dylana Schreiner is a player who does a little bit of everything for the Abbotsford volleyball team.

“She is right up with the (team) leaders in kills. She might not be the hardest hitter in the gym, but she can place (the shots) in the (defensive) holes and get you the points you need,” Abbotsford coach Lee Schreiber said. “She is 98 percent server and someone you want on the backline when it’s a clutch serve and just her (court) smarts and her defense, she reads the ball well and gets there on a dime.”

The middle blocker has been on the varsity squad since her freshman season and is a captain this year for a team which earned a fourth seed in Division 3 for the WIAA postseason which begins next week. She holds a 4.0 grade-point average and is a three-sport athlete who was a first team all-Marawood Conference selection in basketball last winter and competed in the state track meet in June.

“She is just a true leader for us,” Schreiber said. “She is just us one those players that does everything well.”

Abbotsford middle hitter Dylana Schreiner has been a member of the Falcons varsity volleball team since her freshman year.

Schreiner recently sat down with USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin to talk about her athletic memories, what she does to get ready for a game and her postgraduation plans among other topics.

Do you have a nickname which your friends, teammates or family calls you?

Everyone calls me ‘Dee’. My coach actually gave me the nickname during my freshman year, and that just stuck.

Outside of sports and school, what is something that people might not know about you?

I actually really like playing the drums.

What would you say is the most memorable sports moment in your career?

Probably my sophomore year in basketball when we went to the sectional semifinals. We lost to Phillips but it was just great getting that far in the playoffs.

Any pregame supersititions or rituals you go through?

We always like to listen to music in the locker room (as a team) and get pumped up and start dancing and screaming at the top of our lungs. We always do that before a game.

Is there one song (the team) always listens to?

There is one certain song, but, yeah, I probably shouldn’t say it. It’s a good one, though.

You have played with a lot of these fellow teammates throughout your career, but are there certain ones you will especially miss after this season?

I’m definitely going to miss all of the seniors because we have been playing volleyball together since the fifth grade. I’ll really miss (junior) Melanie Kunze and my sister, Riley.

Where do you think your biggest growth has been as a volleyball player during the past four years? Has it been more mental or physical, or both?

Maybe a little bit of both, but definitely mentally. When I was a freshman, there were times I wouldn't be as prepared as I would be now. I'm just a lot more confident on the court in all sports.

Who is your celebrity crush?

Channing Tatum.

Where is your dream vacation?

Australia. I just really like the country, I think it is beautiful there.

What is your dream career?

I want to be a physical therapist and help people. I never went through an injury myself (through high school) but seeing other people who have, I know it’s hard and I want to help people through their recovery.

Do you know what your postgraduation plans are?

I want to go to (the University of Wisconsin) La Crosse next year. I am thinking about possibly playing basketball there.
