Local players lead all-CWC basketball teams

Tri-County junior Amber Baehman was named the Central Wisconsin Conference-10 girls basketball player of the year.

WITTENBERG - Taylor Nier earned the Central Wisconsin Conference-8 player of the year honor in her final season with the Wittenberg-Birnamwood girls basketball team.

The senior helped the Chargers earn a share of the conference title with Amherst as she averaged 15.3 points per game in CWC-8 play.

Amherst senior Kendra Dombrowski earned her third straight all-Central Wisconsin Conference-8 first team selection. The Falcons veteran, who earned player of the year honors last year, finished fifth in conference scoring this year averaging 13.2 points per game. Dombrowski’s teammate, Heather Pearson,was also named to the first team. Pearson averaged 13.5 points per game, third highest in conference this season

Leighten Fischer and Tina Ubl both earned their second first team honors. Fischer, a senior for Iola-Scandinavia, averaged a double-double this conference season with 18.3 ppg and 10.5 rpg. Ubl, a senior at Shiocton, finished fourth in scoring (13.4 ppg) and second in rebounds (7.8 rpg).

Bonduel’s senior Emily Sorenson also earned first-team honors as she led the Bears with 12.2 points per game.

Tr-County junior Amber Baehman earned her second all-Central Wisconsin Conference-10 player of the year award and also the third first team selection in her prep career.

Baehman led the conference in rebounds with 12.7 per game and assists with 5.7 per game..She also averaged 21.0 points per game for the undefeated conference champions.

Tri-County junior Brooke Hopkins joined her teammate on the all-CWC-10 first team as finished third in assists per game (3.1) while averaging 12.2 ppg.

Reanne Kietlinksi earned her second first team selection. The Bowler junior led the conference in scoring with 24.5 ppg.

Seniors Alexa Gravunder and Sydney Jensen both capped off their prep basketball careers with first-team honors. Gravunder finished fifth in conference scoring (15.9 ppg) while leading Wild Rose to a second-place finish in the CWC-10. Jensen finished third in rebounds (9.1 rpg) and fourth in scoring (16.6 ppg) to lead Gresham..

Port Edwards'  Kaitlyn Lyp finished third in the conference in scoring (17.5 ppg) and also was second in assists (3.3 per game) to earn first-team honors.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Shiocton's Nate Schmidt earned his second Central Wisconsin Conference-8 boys basketball player of the year award and the third first team selection of his prep career.

The Shiocton senior led the conference in scoring (20.4 ppg) while leading his team to an undefeated conference season.

Iola-Scandinavia's Kenny Holz made his debut on the first team after earning second team honors the previous season. The senior averaged 17.5 points per game for the third-place Thunderbirds.

Second-place Amherst placed two players on the first team — juniors Mason Wideman and Colton Groholski. Both players averaged 12.3 points per game for the Falcons this winter.

Noah Kollock was a first-team selection to the all-Central Wisconsin Conference-10 boys basketball team.

Weyauwega-Fremont’s Jake Hablewitz completed the all-CWC 8 first team.The sophomore was second in conference scoring with 19.4 points per game.

The all-Central Wisconsin Conference- 10 boys basketball first team saw four repeat honorees in Sawyer Fleming, Neal Cerveny, Addison Gibbs, and Dylan Bunders.

Cerveny was named player of the year as he led Gresham a share of the CWC-10 title as he averaged 22.8 points and 3.4 assists per game.

Bunders was joined by his teammate Noah Kollock as a first team honoree. The senior-sophomore duo led Almond-Bancroft to a share of the conference title. Bunders and Kollock averaged 20.2 and 20.4 points per game, respectively. Bunders also led the Eagles in rebounds (8.5), assists (3.6), and blocks (1.3) per game while Kollock led in steals (2.6).

Fleming led Rosholt with 21.2 points and 3.8 assists per game, and Gibbs averaged 19.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game to lead Port Edwards.

Menominee Indian’s Ronald Frechette III made his first team debut as he averaged a double-double this conference season (18.7 ppg and 11.3 rpg).
