SPASH junior makes mark in prep track honor roll

WAUSAU - Liam Belson's effort on Tuesday not only helped the Stevens Point Area Senior High boys track team with a home triangular track meet, but also placed him among the state's best performances this spring.

The Panthers junior had a season-best time of 1 minute, 58.37 seconds, which ranks fifth in the state for prep boys track competition in Wisconsin, regardless of division, according to times collected by athletic.net

Belson, who finished third in the 800 meters in Division 1 boys competition during the WIAA state track meet last June, is among the highlights for a local boys and girls prep track honor roll this week. Belson also ran the third leg for the Panthers 1,600-relay team, which posted a season-best time of 3:28.10 on Tuesday as well. The mark ranks second in the state behind the time of 3.27.29 posted by Brookfield East.

Rosholt's Sawyer Fleming ran a season-best time of 2:00.13 in the 800 during the SPASH triangular on Tuesday, a mark that ranks 11th overall in the state this spring in boys competition.

Wausau West's Brooke Jaworski posted a time of 24.85 in the 400 during the Dan Baker Memorial in De Pere last Friday. The time is the fastest for a prep girls track athlete in the state this year, according to times collected by wisconsintrackonline.com. Jaworski still also holds the fastest girls time in the 800 this spring (54.59), a mark she set on March 12.

Edgar's Marissa Ellenbecker had a time of 11:21.41 in the 3,200 in the Back the Track Invitational in Rosholt last Friday as well. The mark is the eighth-best performance by a girls runner in the state this season,regardlesss of division.
