Fabian named new Woodchucks manager

WAUSAU -The Wisconsin Woodchucks will have new leadership for next season.

Andrew Fabian was announced as the manager for the Northwoods League team on Tuesday. He was the Chucks pitching coach and bench coach this past season.

"This is a tremendous opportunity," Fabian said in a team media release. "I am truly honored to have been the next Woodchucks manager. I feel that I have something meaningful to offer to the game and I have dedicated myself to learning as much as possible so that I may guide and assist other ball players realize their dream.”

Fabian is the third manager the Chucks have had in the past year. He takes over for Dustin Coffman, an assistant coach who became the Chucks manager after Mike Gedman, who was hired in October 2015, stepped down from the position after the first week of last season.

The Chucks finished with a 31-40 record.

Fabian is an assistant baseball coach at Hillsborough Community College in Plant City, Fla. He also previously was an assistant coach at Long Island University-Brooklyn and before that had stops at Adelphi University and Lynn University.

Fabian served three yeaars as a pitching coach at Lynn University, and focused primarily on pitchers as an assistant at Adelphi University during the 2014-15 season. He graduated from Lynn University in 2011 and received a master's degree in sports administration in 2014.

He was a member of the Lynn University baseball team that captured a NCAA Division II national championship in 2009. Fabian also was a pitcher for Allegheny Nitros in the New York State Collegiate Baseball League.
