Abbotsford, Iola-Scandinavia move up in AP state prep football poll

WAUSAU - Two local programs made a jump in the second Associated Press state prep football poll of the season. 

Ean Rau is part of an Abbotsford team which is ranked No. 7 in the Small Division for this week's Associated Press state football poll.

Abbotsford and Iola-Scandinavia are ranked seventh and eighth, respectively, in the Small School Division for the poll, which was released Tuesday afternoon. It is jump of two spots for both programs, which are undefeated through two weeks of the season. 

Amherst and Edgar remained in the state poll for a second straight week. Amherst  fell three spots to No. 5 in the Medium Division after a 14-13 nonconference loss to St. Mary's Springs last Friday in Fond du Lac. Springs, which stopped a two-point conversion try by the Falcons in the fourth quarter, remained No. 1 in the Small Division with all 10 first-place votes.

Springs also remained a spot ahead of Edgar for a second straight week. 

Spencer/Columbus Catholic got a vote in the Medium Division and faces Stanley-Boyd in a Friday showdown between two undefeated Cloverbelt Conference opponents. Stanley-Boyd remained No. 6 in the Small Division after a rout of Regis last Saturday. 

Kimberly and Waukesha Catholic Memorail remained the top-ranked teams in the Large and Medium Divisions, respectively, for the second-straight week. Both teams received all 10 first-place votes. 

Kimberly faces Stevens Point Area Senior HIgh in a Valley Football Association matchup Friday. 

Newman Catholic remained ranked in the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association's 8-man poll for the second straight week. The Cardinals (2-0) moved down one spot to No. 7 in the poll. Luck remained the top-ranked team for the second straight week.
