State-ranked volleyball teams set for Marawood Conference showdown this week

WAUSAU - Two state-ranked teams will meet in a Marawood Conference South Division volleyball game Thursday. 

Stratford, ranked No. 2 in Division 3, travels to Newman Catholic to face a Cardinals team which remains ranked third in Division 4. The game is set for a 7 p.m. start. 

Stratford and Newman Catholic are two of the three local teams in the Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association state poll released Monday night. 

Merrill, the Wisconsin Valley Conference leaders are ranked ninth in Division 2.

All three programs were ranked in the same spots last week. The only local difference is Pacelli received honorable mention consideration in Division 3. 

Merrill, Newman Catholic and Stratford have been ranked in all four weeks of the state poll, and Stratford has been the No. 2 team in Division 3 throughout this fall as well. 

Three teams maintained their holds in the top spot in the WVCA state poll — Arrowhead (Division 1), Lake Country Lutheran (Division 3) and Clayton (Division 1).

Lakeside Lutheran moved up a spot to No. 1 in Division 2 this week. The previous top team, Notre Dame, dropped two spots to third in the state poll.

Honorable mention: Sheboygan North, Mukwonago, Oconomowoc, Burlington, Kimberly. 

DIVISION 2

1. Lakeside Lutheran. 2. Little Chute. 3. Notre Dame Academy. 4. Kettle Moraine Lutheran. 5. East Troy. 6. Pewaukee. 7. Luxemburg-Casco. 8. Lake Mills. 9. Merrill. 10. Xavier. 

Honorable mention: Mount Horeb, Edgewood, Edgerton, University School of Milwaukee, Bloomer. 

DIVISION 3

1. Lake Country Lutheran. 2. Stratford. 3. Manitowoc Lutheran. 4. Regis. 5. Waterloo. 6. Brodhead. 7. Algoma. 8. Cuba City. 9. Aquinas. 10. Oostburg. 

Honorable mention: Williams Bay, Pacelli, Winnebago Lutheran Academy, Weyauwega-Fremont, Living Word Lutheran. 

DIVISION 4
