Amherst moves up spot in state prep football poll

WAUSAU - Amherst moved up one spot in the Associated Press state prep football poll this week. 

The Falcons (6-1) received a first-place vote and are ranked fourth in the Medium Division in the poll released Tuesday afternoon. Amherst is one of three local programs ranked in the seventh week of the poll. 

Edgar (7-0) remained second in the Small Division, where the program has been positioned throughout the fall. Iola-Scandinavia (6-1) remained at No. 9 in the Small Division as well.

Two local programs with 6-1 records, Spencer/Columbus Catholic and Abbotsford, both received votes in the Medium and Small divisions, respectively. 

Kimberly received eight of the nine first-place votes and remained No. 1 in the Large Division, and Lodi received six first-place votes to hold the top position in the Medium Division. 

St. Mary's Springs was a unanimous No. 1 in the Small Division. 

Newman Catholic remained third in the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association 8-man football poll. The Cardinals (7-0) host No. 8 Phillips on Saturday.
