Central Wisconsin players top all-state hockey

WAUSAU - The Stevens Point Area Senior High boys hockey team averaged six goals a game this season in part because the play of a high-scoring brother combination.

Cole Caufield and Brock Caufield, both of whom are committed to The Ohio State University, combined for 55 goals and 124 points as the Panthers reached a WIAA sectional semifinal. The duo were both first team all-Wisconsin Valley Conference selections and are among the dozen forwards who recently received first team all-state honors.

Wisconsin Rapids defenseman Sam Storlie, the WVC player of the year, was a first team all-state selection as well. Seven additional local players were named honorable mention all-state players.

Cole, a freshman, led the Panthers with 29 goals and 64 points. Brock, a junior, had 26 goals and 59 points as the Panthers finished in second place in the WVC.

Storlie, a senior, finished with six goals and 35 points for the Raiders, who finished third in the conference and reached a sectional title game.

Antigo, which captured the Great Northern Conference title and reached the state tournament had two first team all-state selections: forward Alex Nagel and goalie Ben Bartletti. Nagel, a senior, had 40 goals and 76 points for the Red Robins, who fell to Eau Claire Memorial in a state quarterfinal. Bartletti, a junior, finished with a 22-4-1 record and a 1.53 goals against average.

WVC champions Wausau West had four players named all-state honorable mention: forwards Cale Bowman and Nick Techel and defensemen Jacob Evans and Kellen Tharaldson.

D.C. Everest senior forward Mathew Janke, Pacelli senior goalie Trent Kollock, Antigo senior Elijah Wickersheim and Mosinee senior Landon Stepan also were honorable mention picks

Three members of the Central Wisconsin Storm were second team selections on the all-state girls hockey team: Katelyn Ramthun, Emily Bauer and Elizabeth Bauer.

Ramthun had 31 goals for the Storm and tied with the Bauer sisters with a team-high 60 points this season.

Tomahawk junior goalie Erin Sparks also was a second team all-state pick by the Wisconsin Girls Hockey Coaches Association. Sparks, who was limited to 12 games this year due to a season-ending injury, had a .917 saves percentage.

Storm junior defenseman Taylor Treu was a honorable mention selection as was senior Hailey Ehr of Point/Rapids/Marshfield.
