High school football: Here are the top 10 games of Week 7

West De Pere (6-0) at Menasha (6-0)

The series: Menasha leads 12-2-1.

The last time: Menasha won 17-7 on Sept. 29, 2017, at De Pere.

About the Phantoms: For the fourth time in five years, West De Pere and Menasha are the clear favorites to win the Bay Conference. The Phantoms are 5-0 in the Bay and are coming off a 45-0 win over Seymour. David Vanderlogt led the charge, rushing 22 times for 177 yards and four touchdowns, while quarterback Josh Blount added 20 carries for 174 yards and two TDs.

About the Bluejays: Menasha, also 5-0 in the Bay, rolled over Green Bay West 55-0. Quarterback Cole Popp completed 9 of 11 passes for 232 yards and three touchdowns, while Riley Zirpel added two rushing touchdowns. Trey King and Reece Racette added rushing scores.

 

Reedsville (6-0) at Cedar Grove-Belgium (5-1)

The series: Reedsville leads 9-8.

The last time: Cedar Grove-Belgium won 50-12 on Sept. 29, 2017, at Reedsville.

About the Panthers: Reedsvillle, co-leaders in the Big East with Cedar Grove-Belgium and Hilbert at 5-0, is coming off a 53-7 win over Manitowoc Lutheran. Brandon Stelzer led the Panthers with 142 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 18 carries, while Brennen Dvorachek added a rushing touchdown and quarterback Carson Schanilec a passing touchdown.

About the Rockets: Cedar Grove-Belgium has finished in the top three every year of the Big East's four-year existence, having won the league last season at 8-0. The Rockets' lone loss this year was to Fond du Lac Springs, 28-0 on Sept. 7. Cedar Grove-Belgium defeated Oostburg 34-0 last Friday. Alex Acevedo led the way, rushing 26 times for 113 yards and three TDs, while Chris Jentges added 17 carries for 101 yards and one touchdown. Michael Navis rushed 12 times for 84 yards and one TD.

 

Winneconne (5-1) at Plymouth (5-1)

The series: Plymouth leads 3-0.

The last time: Plymouth won 45-7 on Oct. 6, 2017, at Winneconne.

About the Wolves: Winneconne is tied with Plymouth for the East Central Conference lead at 4-0. The Wolves are coming off a 55-0 win over Waupun, racing out to a 48-0 lead by halftime. The Winneconne defense picked off five passes, while quarterback Harrison Robidoux completed 10 of 12 passes for 115 yards and four TDs. He also rushed for one.

About the Panthers: After losing 29-14 to New Berlin Eisenhower in the season opener, Plymouth has gone on to outscore its next five opponents 180-14. Last Friday, the Panthers raced out to a 35-7 halftime lead en route to a 42-7 win over Ripon. Quarterback Cole Booth led the offense, completing 6 of 8 passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns, and rushing five times for 47 yards and another score. Jack Nytes also rushed for one TD, caught one touchdown pass and intercepted a pair of passes, returning both for scores.

 

Two Rivers (3-3) at Kiel (6-0)

The series: Two Rivers leads 22-18.

The last time: Kiel won 30-14 on Sept. 29, 2017, at Two Rivers.

About the Purple Raiders: Two Rivers is 3-1 in the Eastern Wiscsonsin Conference, one game behind conference-leading Kiel. The Purple Raiders were stunned 28-21 by Chilton on Friday after turning the ball over three times. Quarterback Jayden Kiphart led the Two Rivers offense, throwing for two touchdowns, but he also was picked off three times.

About the Raiders: Kiel can all but secure the EWC crown with a win and is coming off a 38-0 win over Valders. In that game, Raiders quarterback Mitchell Mahler led the offense, completing 6 of 10 passes for 158 yards and one touchdown, and six carries for 24 yards and another score. Maximus Ramminger, Alexander Kleinhans and Brian Barrette added rushing touchdowns.

 

Green Bay Preble (6-0) at Green Bay Notre Dame (4-2)

The series: Notre Dame leads series 16-7.

The last time: Notre Dame won 24-10 on Sept. 29, 2017, at Preble.

About the Hornets: Preble is tied with Bay Port for the Fox River Classic Conference lead and is coming off a 42-21 win over Sheboygan North. The Hornets led 28-0 at the half. Kody Joski powered the Preble offense, carrying 13 times for 122 yards and three touchdowns. Jack Dessart and Dalton Lardinois added touchdown passes.

About the Tritons: Notre Dame has won the last 10 games in the series, last losing to the Hornets 21-0 in 2005. The Tritons were beaten by Bay Port 35-14 on Friday. Quarterback Wes Glime led Notre Dame by completing 8 of 19 passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns. Tommy Martzahl was his top target with three receptions for 92 yards and one TD.

 

Medford (4-2) at Mosinee (4-2)

The series (since 1943): Mosinee leads 32-30.

The last time: Mosinee won 42-7 on Sept. 29, 2017, at Medford.

About the Raiders: Medford is tied with Ashland at 3-0 for the Great Northern Conference lead. The Raiders knocked off Antigo 22-18 last week as Garrett Hill led the way with 136 yards rushing on 22 attempts. He scored three touchdowns. Medford is taking aim for its third conference championship in the past four years. The Raiders shared GNC titles in 2015 and 2016.

About the Indians: Mosinee is 3-1 in the conference after rolling over Rhinelander 42-21 on Friday. Carter Samples and William Kennedy helped power the offense as Samples rushed 18 times for 174 yards and three touchdowns, while Kennedy added 11 carries for 128 yards and three TDs.

 

Coleman (4-2) at Kewaunee (6-0)

The series: Kewaunee leads series 1-0.

The last time: Kewaunee won 42-20 on Sept. 29, 2017, at Coleman.

About the Cougars: Coleman is 2-1 in the MONLPC-Large, tied for third with Southern Door, but still within striking distance of the top spot in the conference. Coleman is coming off a 36-12 win over Algoma as Mason Risner led the way with 137 yards rushing on 14 carries and three touchdowns. Tyler Blanchard added 114 yards and one TD on 13 carries, while Jacob Zeitler added 16 carries for 95 yards and one touchdown. 

About the Storm: Kewaunee is 4-0 and is taking aim at its first conference championship since 2010 when it won the Olympian-Packerland Conference-Large, the final of five straight championships. The Storm cruised to a 54-0 win over Sturgeon Bay on Friday.

 

Freedom (5-1) at Wrightstown (6-0)

The series: Freedom leads 30-28.

The last time: Freedom won 14-13 on Nov. 3, 2017, at Wrightstown.

About the Irish: Freedom is 4-1 in the North Eastern Conference, 1½ games behind conference-leading Little Chute and one game behind Wrightstown. The Irish suffered their only loss of the season in the opener to Little Chute 27-13. Freedom defeated Luxemburg-Casco 21-13 last Friday as quarterback Reeve Lambrecht led the way, completing 9 of 14 passes for 171 yards and three touchdowns. He was intercepted twice. Jon Verhasselt was his top target, catching three passes for 118 yards and two TDs, while Adam Brueckner caught the other TD pass.

About the Tigers: Wrightstown is taking aim at its second consecutive conference championship after winning the league title with a 7-1 record last year. The Tigers defeated Oconto Falls 51-19 last Friday. Freedom has won the last five games in the series, including a pair of third round playoff games. Wrightstown last defeated Freedom in a third-round playoff game in 2014.

 

Kimberly (5-1) at Appleton North (4-2)

The series: Kimberly leads 14-10.

The last time: Kimberly won 31-14 on Nov. 10, 2017, at Oshkosh.

About the Papermakers: Kimberly (4-1) can all but secure its sixth consecutive Valley Football Association-North title with a victory. After losing to Fond du Lac in the opener, the Papermakers have steadily improved and have outscored opponents 188-21, including a 38-0 victory over Neenah last week. Running backs Will Fischer and Caleb Frazier each powered their way to touchdown runs, while quarterback Cody Staerkel completed 9 of 13 passes for 157 yards and one touchdown.

About the Lightning: North is 4-2 in the VFA-North with its only losses coming to Neenah (22-19) and Fond du Lac (30-7). With a victory, the Lightning would move closer to sharing their first conference title since winning the VFA-North title outright in 2012. North defeated Kaukauna 41-23 on Friday, rallying from a 23-7 second-quarter deficit. Carter Robinson completed 16 of 24 passes for 196 yards and four touchdowns, while Ian Laatsch rushed 28 times for 129 yards and one TD. Ryan Balck also added a rushing score.

 

Neenah (5-1) at Hortonville (4-2)

The series: Hortonville leads 3-2.

The last time: Neenah won 17-7 on Sept. 29, 2017, at Neenah.

About the Rockets: Neenah is tied for the VFA-South lead at 5-0 with top-ranked Fond du Lac. The Rockets suffered a stinging 38-0 defeat Friday at the hands of Kimberly. Quarterback Sam Dietrich returned from injury but was bottled up by the Papermakers defense and was limited to 7 of 22 passing for 106 yards and two interceptions. 

About the Polar Bears: Hortonville is third in the conference at 4-2 behind Neenah and Fond du Lac. The Polar Bears rallied for a 22-14 win over Oshkosh West last week. Quarterback Max Muthig paced the Hortonville attack, completing 12 of 22 passes for 282 yards and three TDs, while Jose Concepcion led the ground game, rushing 26 times for 117 yards for a 4.5 yards-per-carry average.
